To most of us with easy access to Yosemite, the idea of visiting the park passes with the onset of winter. But my most enjoyable visits there have been in the middle of winter.

One recent winter, I kept a careful eye on the weather reports waiting for a powerful winter storm to pass through. Finally, a good storm hit northern California, and on its heels, I grabbed my camera and tripod, and set out for the park.
